Downtown SLC Real Estate - About the Neighborhood
Until recently, the only downside to living in Downtown SLC was that there was not a grocery store in the immediate vicinity. Now, with the new Harmon's, that problem is no more. You can do almost everything here without even having to use your car. Public transportation in the downtown area is exceptional and it is in the Free Fair Zone, so it is mostly free. Two excellent shopping centers - City Creek and The Gateway - are in the neighborhood along with plenty of unique restaurants, shops, museums, theatres and more.
Downtown SLC Real Estate - Location
Downtown SLC does not have any set boundaries, although it is generally considered to be from North Temple down to 900 South and from 600 West over to 500 East. Housing in this area is almost exclusively condominiums, although there are a few houses.
Why People Like Living in Downtown SLC
There are not many places in Utah where you can live, work, and walk to everything you need. You could live comfortably in Downtown SLC without even owning a car, if you wanted to. The suburbs of Salt Lake tend to be loaded with chain restaurants while the downtown area has many thriving one-of-a-kind restaurants. There are some fast food places in the area, notably, the locally-famous Crown Burger. If you have not yet eaten at Crown burger, you really need to - and be sure to bring your journal so you can mark the first time you ever visited. It will be a day you will want to remember.
Public transportation is exceptional in the Downtown SLC area, with TRAX running to the University of Utah, the airport, out to Daybreak, West Valley, and Draper; the Front Runner (Salt Lake's high-speed train) runs north to Ogden and south to Provo; and the bus can take you anywhere else you want to go.
Downtown SLC is also home to some great entertainment, including movie theatres, a symphony hall, live plays, museums, one of the top libraries in the country, and much more. There is a lot to explore and a lot to do in the Downtown SLC area.
